Barry “Bazz” Johnson is a passionate leader in aged care, currently serving as the Executive General Manager of Quality and Innovation at For Purpose Aged Care. Barry currently works for For Purpose, whose mission is to deliver exceptional aged care services that put people at the centre, ensuring dignity, respect, and quality of life, while driving sector-wide innovation and sustainability. This mission underpins Barry’s focus on reimagining aged care to better serve older Australians through collaboration, evidence-based practice, and forward-looking transformation.

Born in New Zealand, Barry charted an adventurous early course as a sailor in the Royal Australian Navy before turning his hand to leadership in health and aged care. At the “grand old age” of 63, he embraced a part time farming life in Trafalgar South, where he tends 60 acres, 32 cows, and looks forward to calves arriving in 2025. This blend of service, leadership, and land stewardship shapes his philosophy: sustainability, resilience, and respect for people and nature alike.

Professionally, Barry is known for:

  • Leading transformation in quality assurance, integrating evidence-based practices and continuous improvement.
  • Steering innovation in aged care delivery—seeking new models that empower older people, staff, and communities.
  • Fostering a culture of collaboration across clinical, operational and governance functions to ensure that regulatory compliance is a floor, not a ceiling.
  • Championing change during a time of sector reform; bringing rigor, curiosity, and pragmatism to complex challenges in aged care.

Outside of work and farming, Barry is a learner at heart. He reads widely across philosophy, ecology, and health systems, and enjoys conversations that weave those threads together. He brings that wide lens to every role — aiming not just to deliver care, but to reimagine what care can become in Australia.
