Currently, I am the CEO for a community service/health care/aged care organisation at Glenview Community Services. Glenview is a NFP, values focused stand-alone organisation. A rare bird in today’s rapidly transforming, compliance driven, and increasingly competitive environment.
My career started with a passion for all things hospitality, tourism, wine, food, boutique hotels, wineries (including a touch of wine judging!), resorts with a particular focus on eco and experiential tourism. A key aspiration was to reach general management – which was achieved with a collection of national awards for service excellence across various sites. It was also an awesome way to travel to exotic and remote locations, nationally and internationally, which included a scholarship to Cornell University, New York state.
With my wife and I expecting twins, a trigger was created to finally return to our beautiful island state ‘and throw out the anchor’ so to speak, or at least for a while.
The initial return to Tasi included a two year gig to support an existing operation, whilst working through a successful DA approval with a development team for an eco-resort within a World Heritage zone. Unfortunately we went from development to exit mode due to the GFC and I decided to step back and explore other opportunities, industries and challenges.
A decade in aged, health care has been an absolute privilege (and not a day without learning a new acronym!) which included achieving an MBA. It might appear to be a giant leap into the dark, from tourism to health care. I cant deny it wasn’t a challenge, but there is no question that at the end of the day, it all comes back to the same core fundamentals (hospitality, tourism, health) of putting the client, customer, resident, patient (whoever) at the core of all that we do. Supporting teams to continuously build value for both our community, organisation and most importantly our customer, gets me up each day.
Ageing Australia acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, sea, waters and community. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and to Elders past and present.
