Sue Shearer is the Chief Executive Officer of COTA NT (Council on the Ageing Northern Territory), joining the organisation in February 2017 at a pivotal time in its growth and development as the leading advocacy voice for seniors across the Territory.

Under Sue’s leadership, COTA NT has expanded its programs, increased its community reach, and strengthened its role in advocating for the rights, wellbeing, and inclusion of older Territorians. The organisation now delivers key initiatives including the NT Seniors Card and Aged Care Navigator programs, while continuing to develop innovative ways to support and connect with seniors across the Northern Territory.

Recognised as one of the strongest advocates for seniors in the NT, Sue was named Darwin Citizen of the Year in 2019 for “speaking out for those who need a voice.” She has also been recognised among the NT’s most influential and powerful women and has contributed her expertise to key advisory groups, including the Expert Advisory Panel for Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation in the Northern Territory.

As the spokesperson for COTA NT, Sue is a respected commentator on issues affecting older Australians and is frequently called upon by Territory and national media. She works closely with government, community organisations, and sector stakeholders to ensure the voices and experiences of seniors are represented across issues including aged care, cost of living, housing, access and inclusion, safety, and wellbeing.
