How Risk Transfer Can Help Facilitate Investment in Australia’s Ageing Sector

B2 – Growth, Investment and Market Strategy
25 November 2026
11.45am – 12.15pm

Australia’s aged care, retirement living and seniors housing sectors face a significant challenge and opportunity. Demand continues to grow, expectations continue to rise, and providers are increasingly required to invest in facilities, services, technology and workforce capability. At the same time, many organisations are exploring partnerships, acquisitions, mergers and capital investment as a pathway to achieving scale, sustainability and long-term resilience.

Yet many transformational transactions never reach completion. Uncertainty around historical liabilities, legacy operational risks and future exposures can create barriers between buyers, sellers, lenders and investors. In sectors where continuity of service and resident wellbeing are paramount, these challenges can delay investment and limit opportunities for growth.

This session explores an emerging but often misunderstood enabler of sector investment: the use of sophisticated risk-transfer solutions to support transactions and organisational transformation. Rather than focusing on insurance products, the presentation will examine how organisations can create greater certainty around risk allocation, remove barriers to investment and facilitate smoother ownership transitions.

The session will examine how investors and businesses in this sector can successfully navigate complex transactions while maintaining operational focus and continuity of care.

Delegates will gain practical insights into why investors and strategic partners are increasingly attracted to the ageing sector, common transaction risks that can delay or derail investment opportunities and how a holistic approach to risk allocation can help bridge gaps between parties and support successful outcomes.

The presentation challenges the perception that transactions are solely financial events. Instead, it will demonstrate that thoughtfully structured investment and ownership transitions can be powerful catalysts for sector growth, enabling organisations to expand services, renew infrastructure, strengthen balance sheets and deliver better outcomes for older Australians.

Ultimately, the session will demonstrate that when risk is managed effectively, organisations are better positioned to access capital, pursue strategic opportunities and help build the care, housing and community infrastructure that our ageing population depends upon.
